Message from the Commissioner

The Standings you saw before the end of the 2011 season (when clicking on the 'A Division Rankings' and 'B Division Rankings') only reflected current position/standings based on Win% with the tie breaker being Win Margin.  In reality, the tie breaker is and always has been head-to-head, followed by point differential, then followed by common opponents when there is more than a two-way tie.  This significantly complicates the overall Seedings determination given that not all teams play one another.  Given this 'algorithm', the overall Playoff Seedings will quite often not line up with what you see in the A Division Rankings and B Division Rankings  The Standings page(s) will have an abbreviation of this message next summer.

Yeah I think 20 yard endzones are more than enough, despite being a bit smaller than previously.

I think I read somewhere that at one point the endzones were going to be reduced to 10m and that playing field was going to be 100m - I'm glad that idea was scrapped.

The 20 yard endzones are actually a reduction in size and coincides with college nationals this coming year.  I expect to see more of a shift to 20 yard endzones as a standard.  I know that in most all the tournaments I play in, the endzones are shorter than regulation due to size constraints anyways, so it makes sense.

I read your other post and response about the bigger size of the field, and I agree.  This will definitely affect defensive strategies.  In particular, the zone.  With so much space, I foresee it being much easier to shred a Zone D, even in a moderate to stiff wind.

I'm wondering what D strategies could be implemented with this increase in field space.  Anything new to bring to the table?

So one of the big changes in the new AUDL league is field size:

"The field of play is a rectangular area 53 1/3 yards wide and 80 yards long with 20 yard end zones on either end."

How will this field size change affect ultimate strategy both on offence and defence?

I like to block a larger percentage of the attacking side... If you give the option of them only squeezing a shot down the line, it limits the ability once they get closer to the endzone..
I feel (only being new) you can burn yourself out if blocking for the majority of the game and all over the player... Its easier to block a segment and give them one option only.

Welcome to UT! Smiley

I would say playing Ultimate in sneakers is a no-go.  It might do at first while you're getting used to the game, but you'll find quickly as you progress in the game that having cleats is a must.  You won't be able to make good, efficient cuts otherwise.

You could try turf shoes, which are good for hard ground.
